You may need a moment for this Houghton Lodge Gardens wedding. And when we say a moment… we mean at least a good few hours for all your scrolling needs. Jess & Rich wanted their day to reflect them and added so many intricate personal touches throughout. There were also plenty of DIY aspects, such as the signage, pictures and 600 hanging paper cranes (commitment!) Of course with a Gift List from Recommended Supplier Prezola, and Carrie Lavers Photography on hand to capture the day, you simply can’t go wrong. Oh, and if you’ve already fallen in love with Jess’s Made With Love detachable tulle wings, you can find them over on Recycle My Wedding - hurry, hurry, hurry!
We Kayak most weekends, so our speeches were done next to the river. There was a lot of DIY signage, pictures, vows and readings - even 600 paper cranes hanging in the tipi! By not having a formal meal guests could spend more time enjoying the venue.

We wanted a relaxed day full of food, fizz and fun. After our afternoon ceremony in the orangery, we had bubbles and nibbles with an acoustic guitar set in the walled garden in the sunshine. We then walked everyone to our surprise evening location for Pimm's O'Clock and speeches on the pontoon by the river with our guests sitting on the lawn/hay bales. Then the food trucks opened for dinner with no formal sit down. We had a cosy indoor fire pit for the evening, string festoon lights around the river, wildflowers/greenery and lots of dancing.
Our favourite part of the day was seeing each other for the first time down the aisle. Getting married and reading our personal vows to each other. They were written separately and we hadn't shared them beforehand - it was so special. As soon as Rich started his I laughed as they were almost entirely the same as what I was about to say in mine, they had everyone in tears. Second to that was celebrating with everyone and seeing them so happy and all in one place. Especially as it was the first big celebration for us after Covid.
We wanted to support local businesses where possible. Minimising travel was important to us to help make it a more sustainable celebration!
