A wedding cake is more than just dessert; it’s a centrepiece, a reflection of a couple’s style, and, increasingly, a work of edible art. As we step into 2025, wedding cakes are evolving in bold and exciting ways. From intricate piping techniques to sculptural designs and personalised details, this year’s trends focus on creativity, nostalgia, and storytelling.
We spoke to some of the UK’s leading cake designers and our lovely Recommended Suppliers to uncover the top wedding cake trends for 2025. Here’s what’s set to make a sweet statement this year:
The intricate and ornate piping style of Lambeth cakes is making a major comeback. This vintage design, known for its elegant over-piped details, adds an air of sophistication and nostalgia.
"Lambeth cakes are by far the most popular cake trend for 2025. These ornately piped cakes can be beautifully elegant in white or pastel colours or wonderfully kitsch with dainty bows and glace cherries. I’d say every other enquiry I’m receiving at the moment is for one of these!" says Caked.
For couples looking for something unconventional, sculptural cakes are redefining wedding cake design. Inspired by contemporary art and organic forms, these cakes incorporate abstract shapes, intricate textures, and bold structures that blur the line between cake and installation art.
"Wedding cakes in 2025 are evolving beyond traditional tiers into breathtaking edible art pieces. This trend is all about structural elegance, movement, and dynamic texture," explains YiShi Cake.
Soft, romantic hues are taking centre stage, with blush pink, sage green and touches of gold leaf being some of the most requested colours. These delicate yet elegant tones add a timeless feel while still keeping cakes on-trend.
Cakes By Nina confirms: "For 2025, I see a lot of blush pinks, sugar florals, romantic cakes, magical and sage green and gold elements coming through."
Handcrafted sugar flowers are becoming the preferred choice over fresh flowers. Not only are they safe from pesticides, but they also provide an everlasting keepsake.
"Sugar flowers are a much safer option than fresh flowers—you don’t have to worry about cross-contamination or whether your chosen flower is in season. They can be made any time of the year and last for years as a beautiful keepsake," says Cakes By Nina.
More and more couples are incorporating their beloved pets into their wedding cakes, either as tiny figurines or as a separate cake plinth beside the main cake.
"One thing that is always popular is creating a couple’s pet dog or cat in sugar to be hidden on the cake somewhere. If they’re particularly cheeky, they’ll be nibbling away at the bottom of the cake!" shares Caked.
Towering tiered cakes will always have a place in wedding celebrations, but there’s a growing trend toward extra-large single-tier cakes, often styled with cascading florals, ribbons, or seasonal fruit.
Cherish Cakes by Katherine Edwards notes: "Dome-shaped cakes and extra-large single tiers are really catching on. Towers of madeleines and long, narrow cakes stretching across the centre of a table are also making waves."
Personalisation is more important than ever. Couples are infusing their cakes with elements that reflect their love story, whether through monograms, love notes, or edible symbols that represent meaningful memories.
"Beyond aesthetics, couples are infusing their cakes with deeply personal details, making them a reflection of their journey together. This can include hidden symbols, quotes, or subtle nods to their pets," explains YiShi Cake.
More cake designers are embracing a combination of edible mediums like rice paper, isomalt, edible lace, and sculpted buttercream to create depth and dimension.
"My couples are definitely loving wafer paper and rice paper designs to add added details to their final wedding cake design," says The Kilted Cake Company.
Gold leaf and metallic accents are seeing a decline in favour of more natural finishes like edible pressed flowers, sculpted buttercream, and organic textures.
"Metallics are definitely less popular than previous years—I used to apply gold leaf to every other cake, but now there’s a shift toward more natural decorations," says Caked.
Wedding cakes are no longer just for cutting and eating, they’re part of a larger sensory experience. Cakes paired with signature cocktails, interactive cake stations, and bold presentation styles are becoming more popular.
"In 2025, cakes are becoming central to the overall guest experience. Luxurious details combined with bold creativity are shaping the trends, from interactive elements to bespoke artistic touches," says Cherish Cakes by Katherine Edwards.
Traditional vanilla and chocolate remain classics, but couples are becoming more adventurous with their flavour choices. Unique pairings such as White Chocolate Jasmine Matcha, Earl Grey Biscoff, and Dark Chocolate Espresso are gaining popularity.
Charlotte Raymond Cakes says, "Experimenting with new flavours is one of my favourite parts of being a wedding cake designer! One of my favourites that I have on my menu for this year is Dorset honey, orange and parsnip."
Wedding cakes in 2025 are all about storytelling, artistry, and breaking the mould of tradition. Whether it’s through intricate piping, sculptural design, personalised elements, or creative flavours, couples are making their cakes a true reflection of their personalities and love stories.
As YiShi Cake perfectly sums up: "At the end of the day, this is your once-in-a-lifetime event, and it’s likely the most special (and probably the most extravagant) wedding cake you’ll ever have. Choose a cake that is timeless, meaningful, and truly reflects your story—not just what’s trending."
