If you're a fan of all things grunge glam, a jumping the broom and handfasting ceremony, Kurt Cobain and Courtney Love styling and an abundance of vibrant colours, then this editorial shoot will make your heart sing. Recommended supplier Gabriela's Photography And Film captured the zany, rock-and-roll meets punk meets retro vibe superbly. This includes Courtney Love's actual breathtaking wedding dress from Recommended supplier Kate Beaumont. Adding to the rocking theme, Recommended supplier Niamh Designs contributed those absolutely fantastic personalised denim jackets. The pops of retro sparkle came alive through the stationery. This was all thanks to Recommended supplier Sheaf Stationery. And we can't forget that tabloid newspaper stationery by the one and only Recommended supplier Photo Press.
This shoot was inspired by my teenage obsession with Kurt Cobain and Courtney Love. So I definitely wanted to envision them in a modern-day wedding. The styling incorporated pops of colour, iconic smiley faces, and a rustic vibe, purposely put together by a fantastic team.

It wasn't just a handfasting ceremony at this shoot. A time-honoured wedding tradition, jumping the broom was a key part of this shoot. This includes the bride and groom jumping over a broom during the ceremony. Fairly self-explanatory, when you think about it. The act symbolises a new beginning and a 'sweeping' away of the past. It also signifies the joining of two families together and gives a respectful nod to family ancestors. Pre-Christian Roma, Rural Anglo-Saxons and Celtic communities in the British Isles were known for jumping the broom to seal their wedding vows. Whilst jumping over said broom, some words are spoken. "Today X and Y honour and respect this legacy and heritage as well as symbolise the coming together of both families. As X and Y jump, they physically and spiritually cross the threshold into the land of matrimony."
The 90s have felicitously returned to the scene. Whether that be wedding fashion, day-to-day fashion, makeup, accessories or all of the above... The 90s are back. Channelling the nostalgic affinity for the era, this editorial shoot brings inspiration from Courtney Love and Kurt Cobain. Truly the king and queen of grunge! You can see the pair being emulated by the bride and groom's outfits. With Kurt's iconic oversized glasses, messy hair and striped shirt. Courtney's iconic red lip, and her actual wedding dress all came together to make the shoot feel like a '90s magazine. The pops of contemporary colour add dimension to the shoot. It brings a fun, modern twist to the otherwise grunge-y feel. The incredible stationery pairs perfectly with the colours, making it cohesive, candid and crazily good. I mean, HELLO, look at those incredible disco balls and streamers!
This shoot featured a jumping the broom ceremony. Not only that - handfasting, too. We felt that this would suit the iconic couple well. And that it did! Rock My Wedding was always in our minds from the start of this shoot. With so many Rock My Wedding Recommended suppliers, too!

Hopefully, this shoot has tickled that 90s grunge part of your brain perfectly. It certainly has done for us. We're probably going to spend the next three days screaming Nirvana lyrics. Although very 90s in style, this shoot was also very modernised. The streamers and funky groom wear even made it into our 2023 wedding trend predictions! Not only that, the shoot features the Pantone Colour of the year 2023, as well as hot pink and fuchsia.
