Cinema Wedding at Screen on the Green

Photography by Kim Williams Weddings

Shaun & Nick’s cinema wedding is seriously a vibe! Oh, and the fact they had a sing-a-long of ‘not-a-hymn’ song from RuPaul’s drag race? Iconic. With their first dance in drag, and a ‘wear what makes you happy’ dress code, we’re absolutely loving the sentiments behind this gorgeous day. We adore the table plan, which is made up of celebrity women who are gay icons, and the hand-made boutonnieres created from non-degradable plastic bags! If you fancy a cry? Just check out their first-look moment #sobbing.

We married in an old cinema. So we had a big screen to play with - we could use it for stuff like video and photo montages, and a ‘not-a-hymn' sing-a-long of UK Hun from RuPaul's Drag Race UK! We also jettisoned all 'traditional' rules with speeches, and did our first dance in drag - so we weren't apprehensive about injecting some fun here and there.

FAVOURITE MOMENT

Either the first dance - which was a lip-sync in bridal drag to a Carly Rae Jepsen song - or the ceremony itself; which was fun but also very emotional and surrounded by loved ones.

ADVICE

Accept that not everything will go exactly to plan, but try to ride with it and enjoy it anyway! And make the most of the little moments you have with each other as a couple.

Everything was a heroic effort by lots of friends and family. The table plan had tables named after celebrity women who are gay icons, with illustrations from our friend Sophie. The centrepieces were made by my mum, who also made the boutonnieres; and new mother-in-law made the table favours, which were little flavoured gins.

We’re a big fan of this cinema wedding, simply due to the fact it’s so unusual - and we love something a little different! If you’re looking for inspiration moving away from tradition, take a look at these unique gay wedding ideas. Or how about this Drag Race wedding inspiration in Ibiza? We love!
