Björn proposed to Jennick on top of table mountain in Cape Town, after climbing it together. During that holiday we saw a lot of strelitzia flowers; they became the symbol of that holiday for us (Bjorn even got his first tattoo there... of a strelitzia flower!). Valk hotel made sure there were strelitzia flowers during the ceremony and on every table during dinner. Also, our wedding cake had that same flower on top of it and we had an image of the flower ‘printed’ on our macarons (which were gifts to our guests).

Despite of the COVID-19 rules, we were lucky enough to have our wedding on (literally) the last summer day of 2020. Therefore, we were able to have our wedding ceremony at the rooftop of Valk Exclusive Hotel. Also, we had discovered a very cool photoshoot location with a hundred years old greenhouse. Our photographer, Roy, and Bram (our contact at Valk hotel) were such professionals. They made sure we had no stress at all. All suppliers contributed to our day, it was perfect for us.

We both agree that it felt the most special to be walking away after the official ceremony was finished, as husbands, and with our closest friends and family smiling at us with tears of joy and clapping and celebrating. It felt like a relief that everything went right, that all the months of hard work had paid off. We were finally in our light grey wedding suit and feeling our wedding rings around our fingers. It felt victorious to have achieved our gay wedding since our coming out and the journey in between; discovering ourselves and who we are together.
