Dress
Lina the Bride: I felt like pure magic when I tried on my
Rosa Clara dress. It honestly made me feel like a princess in a fairytale. The intricate lace hugged my body, it looks like the flowers were drawn on me. The million layered tulle skirt was so full yet light, it looked like I was floating when I walk.
I had imagined I would wear the exact opposite - a slim spaghetti strapped dress with a low neck. I hadn’t seen this dress in store. My friend brought it in my fitting room. The second I saw myself in the mirror I knew it was the one. It was better than anything I imagined!
Special Moments
It’s so hard to narrow it down. It felt like every moment was special.
There was a moment before the doors opened for us to walk out to the ceremony when my father looked at me and asked if I was ready. I remember it so clearly because any nerves I had and worries about the unpredictable weather washed away turned to excitement and all I wanted to do was get down that aisle to meet Manuel.
Manuel and I have a thing where we high five each other at special moments. After saying our vows, while the guests were cheering, we snuck in a little five to privately mark the moment we committed ourselves to each other. We thought we snuck it in, but it showed in the wedding video :)
I am a major Backstreet Boys fan (90’s kid, what can I say..) so my bridesmaids surprised us with a choreographed performance of their greatest hits - it was brilliant and hilarious!
Ceremony
Taking our vows was so romantic. Promising to love and take care of each other in front of our friends and family was so magical.
Location
Spain was the perfect country for us. Geographically, it was in the middle of Colombia and the Middle East (where our families were coming from). We both love Spanish music, food and landscape. It was also in Spain on a girl’s trip that I realized I was in love with Manuel.
Our Story
Despite having worked at the same company for three months, the only encounter we had was a quick hello at the office Christmas tree when I (Lina) offered Manuel an ornament to decorate the tree with. A year later, we bumped into each other at a friend’s drinks party and couldn’t stop talking to each other all night.
Engagement
A year before we got engaged, I had travelled to Spain with a few girlfriends. It was there that I realized I was in love with Manuel but too nervous to tell him. In Barcelona, I found a postcard with a Word Search for popular greetings - I found and highlighted the letters ‘I LOVE YOU’ and gifted it Manuel when I got back to Dubai. A year later at our anniversary, he gifted me the same postcard and wrote on the back that he wants to meet my parents because he wants to marry me.
Advice
Not everything will go to plan, and that’s ok. I planned an outdoor wedding in summer and three days before the wedding we had to change all plans because a storm was heading to town. I was so sad and stressed out because things were not going as I planned, but the truth is the result was so much more magical. The rain was romantic and made the ceremony feel so much more intimate and the umbrellas were beautiful accessories. Some of our guests thought we intentionally planned for rain!
Photography
We felt a true connection the first time we met
Sara Lobla. She showed us her work while we enjoyed a cup of caffe at Lolita Bakery Café in Barcelona. We just loved her style and felt she was the one we wanted for our wedding.
Entertainment
During the ceremony we had a four string quartet (which was accompanied by pouring rain!). Cocktails:
Pianobar (very unique and highly recommended - great brand, amazing singer and delicious cocktails). Party: DJ
Jimmy Casanovas.
