Babington House Wedding with White Bridesmaid Dresses

Photography by Colin Ross Photography
If you’re looking for jaw-dropping… well, here it is. This outrageously stylish celebration took place at Babington House wedding venue in Somerset, (seriously, how can two people have SO much style!?) Having already had a small Civil Ceremony the previous year, Alexandra and Samuel ensured their focus was solely on the celebratory aspect of their day. Having welcome drinks and a BBQ the evening before, they really took advantage of the venues space; a ceremony under the Birch Tree, cocktail reception on the main lawn, dinner in The Orangery, and speeches outside on the steps. Alexandra looked absolutely breathtaking in a Pronovias dress, then changing into ba&sh Paris to dance the night away! We also heard a little rumour that celebrations didn’t end until the sun came up, and there may have been a few passed out guests in various places throughout the venue - now that’s a party!

What Made Our Day Unique

It was important for our wedding to feel really personal, and importantly, a big party! Having already had a small civil ceremony with family at New York City Hall the year before, our focus was really on the celebration. We tried to ensure that the day never felt static by really utilizing the grounds. The evening before we had welcome drinks and a barbeque in the Walled Garden. On the day itself, we led guests through six different spaces on-site - a ceremony outside under a Birch Tree, a cocktail reception on the main lawn, dinner in The Orangery, speeches outside on the steps, dancing back in the Orangery (which we had flipped), midnight munchies in another room and then into the after part in the bar.

Babington House Wedding

Babington House is a Grade II-listed manor set in 18 acres of the English countryside. This stunning estate easily lends itself to providing the most incredible backdrop for any wedding. We love the fact that Alexandra and Samuel utilised as much of the space as possible, and added in their own personal touches, such as the epic entertainment throughout the day, (special mention to the fire throwers!) A venue such as Babington House also allows you to take advantage of the incredible team available, providing their expertise throughout your planning and on the day!

Inspiration & Styling

Our vibe was quite eclectic. Some parts of the day had more of a traditional, romantic vibe, which really leant itself to the old countryside setting - our ceremony and dinner, in particular, fell into this theme. Our drinks reception was Caribbean themed, with a mango mojito and Watermelon and min bellini, and we also had a steel band playing. Fortunately, the sun was shining to really elicit some tropical vibes! The rest of the day was pretty contemporary in its feel, with the personality and decor of Babington itself really facilitating that. We wanted the day to feel very much a reflection of our personalities and hopefully, we achieved that.

Entertainment

I know it’s a cliche, but the whole day really was beyond what we could have hoped for. I think my favourite part was dancing to the band after dinner. I couldn’t recommend the Soul Brothers more, they really know how to get a party started! At this point, anything that could have gone wrong (thankfully) hadn’t, and we could really just let our hair down and party with our nearest and dearest. With our closest friends and family split mainly between the UK and the US, it was really special to have everyone right there in one room, and they certainly let their hair down too! The celebrations didn’t end until the sun came up and let’s just say I think the cleaners were a little surprised when they came to do their morning duties to find passed out guests strewn around the property!
