Last Minute Wedding Preparations

Photography by Emily Robinson Photography

Planning a wedding can be an exciting yet overwhelming experience - especially when it comes to last minute wedding preparations. With so many details to manage and decisions to make, it's easy to feel a bit overwhelmed as the big day approaches. But worry not, dear friends. This is where we come in. With proper planning, organisation, talking to your suppliers, and help from your online wedding friends (hint: that's us) you can ensure that everything goes as smoothly as possible. Two weeks before your wedding day is a crucial time to focus on the final preparations. But it's easy to forget what those final steps actually are with everything else going on in your life. So, here are some essential tasks to tackle during this time to ensure you are feeling happy, confident, and stress-free leading up to your I Do's.

Last minute wedding preparations - final steps to ensure confidence on your wedding day

1. Finalise, finalise, finalise!

Step one of your last minute wedding preparations: finalise! Whilst you will have already communicated with your suppliers, it's always better to confirm that everything is ready and in place. Reach out to all of them. This includes the venue, photographer, caterer, florist, and all other suppliers you've booked (hopefully through Rock My Wedding!) to confirm the date, time, and any specific arrangements. Ensure that everyone is on the same page to avoid any misunderstandings on the day. Trust us - you will feel a lot better once you've got confirmation from everyone that everything is ready to go. Also, make sure everything has been paid for - including final payments. Having a good stream of communication with your suppliers is vital.

2. Get your glad rags on

This may seem obvious, but 2 weeks before your wedding is the perfect time to make sure that your outfit is in top form. Try on your wedding attire and accessories once more to ensure a perfect fit. Whether that's a wedding dress, a bridal suit, a grooms suit, a crop top and a skirt... Whatever you're wearing - try it on! If any last-minute alterations are needed, get them done now. Better late than never! Don't forget to break in your wedding shoes for maximum comfort during the celebrations, too. Not to the extent that you scuff or damage your shoes, of course. In fact - try not to go outside in any of your wedding attire before the big day. No one wants to be manically removing a mud stain from their dress 25 minutes before the ceremony... Just have a wander around your home. Practice in the mirror, if you fancy it.

3. Finalise your wedding table plan

With two weeks to go, most of your wedding guest list should have RSVPd. If they haven't, don't feel shy - chase them up! It's your big day, after all. Now is the time to create a finalised wedding table plan for your guests. This will help avoid last-minute seating arrangements and ensure everyone feels welcomed. A well-thought-out table plan fosters a warm and welcoming atmosphere, allowing your guests to connect and create cherished memories on your special day. Balance the mix of personalities, making sure to seat people who get along well together. Consider placing close family and friends near the head table to share in the intimacy of the moment. Just a suggestion, though - your day, your way!

4. Marriage license and legalities - last minute wedding preparations

Obtaining a marriage license is a crucial step in the journey to your wedding day. With just two weeks remaining before your big day, it's time to ensure all legal requirements are met. This is one of the most important last minute wedding preparations. Depending on your location, you may need to visit your local council or townhouse to apply for the marriage license. Ensure you have all the necessary documents, such as identification, birth certificates, and any required paperwork, ready for submission. Yes, I know - the legal side of ceremonies isn't exactly the height of excitement. But just pretend you're Elle Woods - that's how I make all situations in my life feel better.

5. Delegation time, baby!

As your wedding day draws near, delegating responsibilities is a wise move. With just two weeks remaining, it's time to assemble your trusted team of family members and friends who are there to lend a helping hand. Assign specific tasks to each person. Whether it's coordinating with suppliers, setting up the venue, managing the guestbook, or handling any last-minute emergencies, delegating responsibilities allows you to focus on your own preparations. Remember, teamwork makes the dream work! Cliche, yes - but still rings true to this day. and with the support of your loved ones, your wedding day will go as smoothly as butter. Or sunflower spread, if you're vegan. Embrace the spirit of collaboration, and let your nearest and dearest contribute to making your wedding a resounding success.

If you and your partner are thinking about going on a honeymoon, then this is for you. Take a moment to envision the perfect post-wedding getaway. Whether you dream of a tropical paradise, an adventurous expedition, a romantic city escape, or a weekend away to your favourite countryside village, now is the time to finalise your plans. Confirm all reservations, flights, and accommodations, and make sure you have all the necessary travel documents in order. Create a packing list with essential items, and don't forget to include those special outfits for romantic dinners and leisurely strolls. Happy honeymooning!

7. Self-care is vital

In the midst of the excitement and flurry of wedding preparations, it's crucial to prioritise self-care in these final two weeks. Remember, this is not just a celebration of love, but also a celebration of you. Make sure to get enough rest, eat well, and stay hydrated to maintain your energy levels and emotional well-being. Dedicate time to relax and unwind, whether it's through meditation, yoga, or indulging in your favorite hobbies. Treat yourself to a spa day or pampering session to rejuvenate both body and mind. If you're trying to cut down on money, grab yourself some skin masks from your local drugstore, get some herbal tea and watch your favourite show. Surround yourself with positivity and lean on your support system to manage any pre-wedding jitters. But we must stress - try not to do anything new to your skin too close to the wedding. People get all sorts of reactions to skin treatments - and you don't want to break out in a rash the day before your wedding. So stick to what you know in the couple of weeks leading up to the big day.
