Wedding Flowers - What Exactly Do You Need?

Photography by Epic Love Story

If you're at the beginning of your planning journey, or just at the beginning or day dreaming about your choice of wedding flowers then this is for you. Spending hours pinning images from around the web of floral colours, seasonal textures and decor ideas is one of the best parts of the whole trip. But once you're ready to book that florist, it helps to have on hand exactly which ways you wish to use your choice of blooms. Using this list to decide upon your perfect combination will not only make your first meetings with your florist a breeze, but will also help you to set expectations and keep within budget.

Wedding Flowers You May Want To Order

Remember this is neither a prescriptive, nor an exhaustive list. Every couple chooses to adorn their day differently, so we've just listed the most common uses for wedding flowers, merely as a springboard to get you started on decided what you want.
  • Bridal Bouquet: Your bouquet (if you choose to have one) is an opportunity to inject some colour and/or personal style into your outfit. Fancy something luxe but boho? Or perhaps you want something minimal and classic? Your florist will be able to help you express yourself in stylish floral fashion.
  • Hair Accessories: Whether a tiny spray of gypsophila in your hair or a full on, full bloom floral crown, we love them all.
  • Bridesmaid Bouquets: If your best girls are having blooms of their own, they will often compliment your bridal bouquet in colour and style.
  • Boutonnieres (Buttonholes): For the guys (or gals) in your wedding party rocking a suit. Often pinned to a lapel or tucked into the jacket pocket alongside a coloured handkerchief.
  • Corsages or floral cuffs: A wrist band decorated with blooms, these are often reserved for Mother Of The Bride and Mother Of The Groom, but you could dish out a corsage or floral cuff to anyone you want to give some special treatment to.
  • Ceremony Decor: Floral arrangements for aisle decor are really only limited by your imagination. We've seen beautiful examples of aisles lined with blooms, full floral moon gates, chair back blooms and even hanging floral installations.
  • Wedding Breakfast Decor: Consider how your wedding flowers from the ceremony can do double duty and be moved for your wedding breakfast. Once again, anything goes here. Hanging flowers, table centrepieces and garlands are just a few of the ways you can use your wedding flowers to create an atmosphere for your guests.
  • Floral Favours: If you want to take your wedding flowers one step further, you can choose to gift each guest a little something. Be that a sprig of lavender tied to a napkin or a full on herb pot to plant in their garden.
  • Bouquet Gifts: You might also choose to extend the floral love to parents or other important people in your life with a bouquet arrangement as a thank you for all their support during wedding planning.
