Barra Castle Wedding with Tartan Kilts

Photography by Caitlin + Jones

A castle wedding with all the tartan kilts, gorgeous scenery, and a dog (YESSS). Shona & Darren were married in a micro wedding at the Barra Castle in Aberdeenshire. Their day had a rustic and relaxed vibe, inspired by the venue and surrounding views. With little boho touches, such as pampas grass, lots of greenery and plenty of neutral earthy tones! We absolutely love the Autumnal vibe and golden hour photoshoot, which looks positively idyllic against the glorious backdrop of fields and blue skies!

Despite everything going against us; having to postpone, reduce our guest list, not knowing till the week before whether the wedding was going to go ahead or not, all these obstacles made the weekend feel extra special and meaningful.

FAVOURITE MOMENT

The Ceremony. Due to the restrictions and having to wear masks indoors, we made the decision to get married outside. In Scotland. In November. That's risky! But, it was important for us to see our guests smiling faces as we got married. Luckily for us, the weather was glorious. The ceremony backdrop was insane; with the Scottish landscape behind us and beautiful ceremony arch made by Tupleo Tree. Having just 20 people there made it feel so intimate. I'd never pictured this specific ceremony scenario in my head. It was more perfect than anything I'd imagined.

ADVICE

The pandemic has almost sucked all the joy out of planning a wedding. My advice to couples going through this would be that time does pass, you will have your day and it will be more special because of everything you went through. If you don't want to wait, then don't, we never thought we'd go for a micro wedding option, but we both admit the day was more amazing than we could have ever imagined! We wouldn't change a thing. You can always throw a big party at a later date. Double the celebrations can't be a bad thing!
