Vintage Romance: Botanical Wedding Theme at Aswarby Rectory

Photography by Mirl & Co

Francesca & Adam’s wedding was a true testament to the power of love at first sight, not just with each other but with their venue. The couple fell head over heels for Aswarby Rectory before even stepping foot inside. Determined to create a romantic, vintage-inspired celebration with timeless appeal, the pair set the tone for an understated yet sophisticated day complete with lush florals, candlelight, and a no-kids policy to ensure a night of dancing and celebrating for their guests. Although they initially dreamed of a spring or summer wedding, Francesca & Adam couldn’t resist the allure of Aswarby Rectory and opted for an October date just to secure the venue. With a little creative flair and the help of their talented florist, the couple brought the essence of spring to life with a dreamy pastel colour palette. All our suppliers were great! However, our band were incredible. Everyone commented on how good they were and they really brought everyone together and injected energy into all the guests. We'd highly recommend getting a band!

Botanical Wedding Theme at Aswarby Rectory

Francesca & Adam immediately fell in love with Aswarby Rectory even before they first visited. “It is such an elegant venue with a stripped-back feel that suits our personalities. We wanted the vibe to be romantic, vintage, yet timeless with an understated elegance.” In keeping with the sophisticated vibes, no kids were allowed! The couple remarked, “Aswarby Rectory provided the perfect canvas for our styling. All we needed were some candles and flowers everywhere, and it just completely came to life. Due to the capacity and intimacy of our beautiful venue, we also chose not to have children present except our niece. Although we love children, it allowed all the grown-ups to let their hair down and party the night away!”

Even though the couple initially wanted to tie the knot in spring/summer, they loved Aswarby Rectory so much, that they settled for an October wedding just to secure the venue. They brought the spring season in using pastel colours. Their fabulous florist, Lucie from Coco in the Country, did an incredible job of bringing their vision to life, sourcing the colour palette out of season. Luckily, the weather ended up being like a beautiful summer's day too!

“Adam decided he wanted to hide behind the scenes and have his own entrance to the ceremony rather than meet guests before. Adam made his entrance to the song Feeling Good by Nina Simone, and the guests erupted into loud cheers, which Francesca could hear and made her even more excited!”

Wedding Planning Advice From The Couple

Since planning their own beautiful wedding, Francesca & Adam wanted to share the best advice based on what they learnt through the process. “The number 1 piece of advice would be to stay true to yourselves! Don't bow to outside pressures or what you think you should be doing. If you don't want to follow some traditions, then don’t!

“Secondly, get a videographer! We've not received our wedding film yet, but we already know how important it is going to be. The day is such a blur, and there are also things you don't see, so having it captured on film are your memories for the years to come.

“We also suggest doing your supplier research ASAP. The process of planning a wedding is long, but once you've booked a venue, you're locked in! Before booking your venue, make sure you've done some supplier research and got some rough costs so you can at least get an idea of your budget. We went in without a budget and were quite naive to how much a wedding costs. It seems silly but pick suppliers that you like as people as well as the work they do. It makes your day more relaxed and helps to bring your vision to life. If you choose the right people, it's like having extra members of your wedding party, they work so hard to ensure you're having the best day ever.

“On that note, plan for extra costs near the day. In the lead-up to the day, there are extra costs that might have been difficult to plan for or weren't thinking about 18-24 months in advance. Things like dress alterations, disposable cameras, and hotels for the night before. They all add up.”

The favourite moment of the day has to be seeing each other for the first time as Francesca enters the ceremony room. Francesca looked utterly breathtaking, and Adam was in tears with his lip quivering. The whole day felt like a dream and an out-of-body experience but as we held hands at the end of the aisle, all the nerves simply melted away and pure joy and excitement set in!
