Lizzie & Richard had an English summer garden wedding theme with a Scottish twist at Recommended Venue, Caswell House, with the cutest personal touches! Richard’s surname is Trotter, and Lizzie’s maiden name was Mutton, so this couple is truly a match made in heaven (or rather, a farmyard)! Playing on this, the couple had pig and sheep place name cards as well as cheese table names and centrepieces to fit in with the quintessential British theme. They served fish and chip cones with strawberry cocktails along with Scotch egg canapés and a ceilidh in the evening. Capturing this beautifully classic wedding day was Recommended Supplier, Matt Penberthy Photography, who has added such a wonderful, timeless feel to these wedding photos.
You don’t realise just how quickly your day will go – cherish every moment, even in the run-up to your wedding when you will probably be the most stressed! Take moments to look around and soak it all up. My day went so quickly and I didn’t even look around to see what I had been planning for so long! Also, invest in a good photographer! It’s a good thing our photographer, Matt Penberthy, was absolutely fantastic and captured so many gorgeous moments of both me and my husband, our guests, and also little details that I hadn’t even noticed on the day, like signage and cocktails and canapés. Matt was a dream!
Lizzie & Richard
Lizzie & Richard’s wedding day featured little nods to both their surnames with chalk signs for each family as well as little pig and sheep place cards. The couple decided on an English summer garden party with vibrant pinks and all things quintessentially English with a Scottish twist. Lizzie & Richard had mini fish & chip cones, strawberry cocktails, Pimms, and lawn croquet. For the Scottish touches, the groom wore full highland dress, Lizzie included thistles (the national flower of Scotland) in her bouquet, they had Scotch egg canapés, and a ceilidh in the evening. To fit in with this rustic country theme, the table names were all English and Scottish cheese names (such as “Slack ma Girdle” and “Stinking Bishop”) along with the corresponding cheese as the centrepiece. Cute but with the scorching hot heat wave, this made for a rather interesting smell!
Lizzie & Richard had a live pianist on a baby grand piano who played the processional music, which was I Vow to Thee by My Country Holst as well as the recessional music, The Arrival of the Queen of Sheba by Handel. The pianist played a mixture of classical and modern pieces during the outside drinks reception, and he played Lizzie & Richard’s first dance, Young & Beautiful by Lana Del Ray. Finally, the couple had a ceilidh in the evening, ending the most fantastic night of their lives to Strip the Willow & Auld Lang Syne! The couple also arrived in style with their vintage 1935 Rolls Royce that had once been used to drive King Edward VIII and Wallis Simpson to the South of France. The couple felt like royalty sipping Pimms in the back of the Rolls Royce as they travelled to their wedding breakfast.
One memory that stands out is that during our vows Richard had to say “I will” in response to “Will you love and cherish her etc.” He forgot what he was supposed to say and in a moment of panic, he said “Absolutely. I do. I will. Everything!” It was so sweet and funny and got a laugh from all of our guests! We then sat down during a reading in our ceremony and faced our guests, and it was lovely to see everyone’s faces! Little did I know that when we sat down, Richard sat with his legs quite wide apart and was, in fact, “manspreading” (the tradition in Scotland is to not wear any underwear under your kilt!). The next thing we knew his Mum was going “Pssst - close your legs” to him! This was again so funny and got our guests laughing!
