Taking place on the 1st and 2nd of November every year (the day after Halloween) is Dia de los Muertos or, for our English speakers, the Day of the Dead. This is a traditional Mexican holiday that celebrates friends and family members who have passed away. That’s right, we said ‘celebrates’ because this two-day celebration is all about partying and honouring life. Christian’s family is from Mexico, and Gina & Christian wanted to represent their roots and share this day with all their guests. Complete with gorgeous gothic details, orange satin bridesmaid dresses and beautiful dried flowers, this day blew us away!
We really enjoyed the moment when we surprised Aunt Deb with a birthday cake and the traditional Mexican song "Las Mañanitas”. We were so excited to surprise her and we loved that she had a special moment at our wedding.
Gina & Christian
The wedding was just as Gina & Christian had dreamed it. They had a traditional Mexican Day of the Dead celebration in the most magical setting in Tulum. For decoration that stuck with this celebratory holiday, the couple had a large altar where they placed photographs of friends and family who are no longer on this plane surrounded by gothic skulls, candles and orange flowers. Gina & Christian wanted to create a rewarding and enriching experience for all their guests that would properly celebrate or familiarise them with aspects of Mexican culture. They served tacos for dinner, accompanied by tequila-based signature drinks and other traditional Mexican dishes.
For Gina & Christian, the party was so much fun and one of the highlights of their day. With good music, lots of dancing, and traditional Day of the Dead make-up, accessories and outfits, it was a beautiful experience for everyone. Gina & Christian said, “Without a doubt, the most important supplier was Luna Mía Events. Without them, nothing would have been the same. Mafer and Daiana (our wedding planners) managed to carry out all the ideas we had and exceeded our expectations.” Their wedding day felt like a truly authentic day for everyone, that not only celebrated a wedding and a birthday but a national holiday too.
Our advice to future couples is to enjoy every minute of the wedding day because it goes by too fast. We had a very early start to the day with the bridesmaids and groomsmen getting ready, but it was a lot of fun!

Taking place on Dia de los Muertos, it makes sense that this wedding day would be full of gothic decorations and details. From the skull vases and candles to the black photo frames on the altar to the traditional Mexican attire and makeup in the evening. We adore everything about this day! Plus, the ceremony also made the most of the autumnal season with lots of dried wedding flowers and rich orange colours that we just love.
