Elizabeth & Luke turned up the volume on all parts of their wedding day and didn’t pay too much mind to tradition. The couple settled on a musical theatre wedding theme with touches and influences from Frida Kahlo and Mexico at Recommended Venue, Preston Court. Okay, it sounds random but stick with us. This theme works SO well. The couple had songs from their fave musicals throughout the day, named their tables after different parts of a theatre and Elizabeth even DIY’d theatre tickets. The Mexican influences come through in the vibrant colours and fashion like Luke’s incredible yellow suit from Recommended Supplier, Mullen & Mullen. Elizabeth embroidered a Frida Kahlo quote on her veil and styled her bridesmaids’ hair in the exact same way Frida Kahlo does. Not to mention those beautiful pink flowers by Recommended Supplier, Moody Blooms. It looks amazing, just take a scroll and see what you think…
It's cliche but you really do have to just go with what you both want to do, without listening to lots of opinions. It's a day you plan and wait for, so you must make sure it's exactly how you want, from the dress to the desert. Just go with what is going to make you look back on the day with happiness.
Elizabeth & Luke
Elizabeth & Luke’s main focus of the day was to make sure all of their guests had fun. Preston Court was the perfect venue for this because of the different 'locations' throughout the day, which the couple could personalise. They had the ceremony on Juliana's Island, which had a whimsical and old-world romance vibe and then spent time on the carousel, which was a hit with the guests. The barn was used for the wedding breakfast and reception which even had circus music coming from the antique organs inside. The first dance took place under the string lights of the courtyard. As lovers of music and musical theatre, Elizabeth & Luke had Elizabeth’s friends from her musical theatre group sing acapella versions of songs from Les Miserables and West Side Story. The couple had their first dance to a song from Bugsy Malone and the master of ceremonies started a spontaneous group singalong to Grease tunes as the bride and groom made their entrance to the wedding breakfast. Iconic. The singalong happened to be one of Elizabeth & Luke’s favourite moments of the day.
Elizabeth loves embroidery and cross-stitch, so she made quite a lot for the wedding. For the wedding favours, she cross-stitched everyone's name and framed them in small cross-stitch hoops. These also doubled as place names. The bridal party were gifted personalised denim jackets by Elizabeth. She even also embroidered her veil by herself! The bride chain-stitched the Frida Kahlo quote 'Take a lover who looks at you like maybe you are magic', added sequins and stitched their initials in a heart. Most of the decor was also DIY’d such as the individual theatre tickets and mini toy theatres for tables. The couple weren’t afraid to be bold and chose a mustard yellow goom suit and ruffle pink wedding dress. Other personal touches include readings from the couple’s friends during their ceremony. One friend read out The Hot Priest’s Speech from the iconic TV show, Fleabag.
We didn't start with a theme, but it accidentally ended up being heavily influenced by Mexico, through the colours and textures. We went to Mexico years ago and we fell in love with everything about it, as it reflects our personalities - bold, colourful, vibrant. I've also been a massive Frida Kahlo fan, and I actually used one of her paintings as a 'mood board' pic for my florist. I also chose to do my bridesmaids’ hair exactly how Frida Kahlo wore hers, by braiding fabric and pinning it to the tops of their heads, which I absolutely loved.
