For gay men of our age (let's just say we’re millennials), we didn't grow up knowing that marriage would be open to us. Even in our 20s, there was still a fight for acceptance and legalisation of gay marriage taking place. So on our wedding day, we didn't take a moment for granted.
Brian & Kevin
Coming from two different countries, Brian & Kevin wanted to make sure everyone attending the wedding had an unforgettable, accessible and fun experience. The couple chose the stunning Hyde House, a location that was new to everyone and brought together their nearest and dearest from all over the world and created an environment of love and joy. The ceremony was a standout moment for the couple with their personal vows. Brian & Kevin’s mums each did a reading and those were fantastic as well.
When asked what the theme of their day was, Brian & Kevin said it was “fun, colour, joy and PRIDE.” Although not intentional, Brian & Kevin’s wedding day happened to fall on the first day of June - which is Gay Pride month around the world! The couple drew inspiration from the rainbow in the wedding styling and embraced colour with their flowers. Brian & Kevin naturally had the biggest popstar aka Taylor Swift play throughout the day. ‘Cornelia Street’ played during the ceremony and ‘Lover’ was their first dance.
The best advice that we got before our wedding was to make decisions and create the day and the vibe that WE wanted as a couple and that would reflect us. Try not to worry about trends, prevailing styles, or what you see on Pinterest or anywhere else. Talk to each other about how you want the day to look and feel and use that as your North Star for every decision about vendors, styling, look, food, drink, etc.
