There’s nothing boring or traditional about Abbie & James’ South London wedding! With their wedding logo as AC/JC (inspired by the band AC/DC, of course), this couple’s day at Recommended Venues, The Asylum Chapel and 100 Barrington, was a true party and celebration. Abbie & James had their legal ceremony at Islington Town Hall the week before, so this day was all about getting together with their loved ones and having the best day ever. The ceremony at Asylum Chapel was led by Recommended Supplier, Bex The Celebrant, who did an incredible job! With alternative and fun fashion, including a sparkly reception dress that we’re OBSESSED with, and a quick photoshoot in Morley’s (this is a South London wedding, in case you forgot), this wedding, captured by Recommended Supplier, Mark Horton Photos, is easily one of our faves!
Abbie: Walking down the aisle and seeing James (I almost ran the final part because I was so excited and emotional!) Then, turning around to see all of our favourite people in one place was just incredible.
James: My favourite thing was stealing moments with Abbie on our own to take the day in. Especially walking around Brixton getting some epic couple photos to look back on.
Abbie & James
For Abbie & James, guest experience was the most important thing above all else. Food was especially important with James being a successful chef! An open bar, a band and a DJ were essentials for Abbie & James to ensure those good vibes were kept up all day long. Everyone on Abbie & James’ guest list included only those people they saw regularly (that means the cousin you only see updates from on Facebook was NOT invited). This was all done purposely to make the day feel relaxed and comfortable since all the guests got on well together too. Inner circle vibes only! Abbie & James said it felt like one giant get-together. After finding Asylum Chapel online, the couple knew it was their venue. James’s mum used to take him to Brixton when he was younger so he could understand his West Indian culture, so it was perfect!
The best thing about your wedding day is that you can do what you want! Your wedding is supposed to be your dream day, so take what traditions you like and forget the others. Abbie really wanted to do a bridal speech as well as have her mum and dad do a joint speech together. Let those voices be heard, ladies! During the ceremony, one of the bridesmaids also read a poem all about female friendship. Abbie & James couldn’t think of anything more awkward than a first dance, so they played All Night Long by Lionel Richie as they opened the dance floor together. You can’t get more of a floor-filler tune than that one! Abbie also got stuck in with some DIY to save on some areas. She DIY’d all the stationery and most of the signage as well as creating all the table centrepieces using dried flowers.
Plan the day YOU want. It goes by in a flash, and it costs a small fortune, so why do it any other way? The main objective is to have the best day of your life. If you don’t care about certain traditions, don’t do them! Our tip is to make list of what’s important to you (venue, food, flowers etc) and that becomes your list of priorities and where you should spend your budget. For us, whilst big floral displays are amazing it personally wasn’t a priority for us. Instead, we were happier to have a band, DJ and a string quartet.
Abbie & James
Abbie & James’ South London wedding was true to the couple and their personalities. They only embraced what traditions worked for them and one of those was not having a first dance. Instead, they just made one hell of an entrance instead! Here are our best wedding entrance songs to help you have your moment too! Take a leaf from Abbie’s book and come out in a sparkly wedding reception dress for the evening! You are the ultimate dancing queen on your wedding day, so it’s only right that you have more than one outfit. Take a look at our favourite wedding reception dresses right now.
