The Bride
Selina the Bride: I was a bit overwhelmed with all the amazing wedding dresses and designers, and ended up trying on over 80 dresses before I settled on my perfect Nina gown by South African designer
Anna Georgina. I had tried on a few of their designs on my first ever dress appointment and fell in love with the incredible detail, unique cut and playful detailing. I got in contact with the designer directly, who kindly put me in touch with a boutique who had their entire collection on loan for a few days that I could try. It was the perfect gown, I wanted something that was traditional in some aspects, but also modern and a little bit edgier than some of the classic designs I had tried – perfect with my gold sparkly
Jimmy Choo sandals! I am in love with my hair stylist Debs, who created a romantic flowing style with gypsophila twisted through it which finished the look perfectly.
The Groom
We settled on a beautiful 3 piece grey mini houndstooth suit from
Gieves & Hawkes – we wanted something classic with a luxury fabric/cut, and this was the perfect suit.
The Venue
We got married in St Mary’s Church in Whissonsett, Norfolk – in a beautiful candlelit ceremony, decorated with ivory rose petals and lanterns. Our reception venue was the incredible
Godwick Great Barn in rural Norfolk. We were looking for a blank canvas venue where we had complete flexibility to build our dream wedding – Godwick was the perfect choice, the extra bonus of providing on site accommodation in a stunning B&B which accommodated both of our families. Godwick is the most beautiful barn setting, with an unrivalled sunset and view of the ancient Godwick ruins on the landscape which delivered some incredible photos on the day.
The Decor
Our colour scheme was quite simple, with neutral ivory tones, natural greens to compliment the barn setting, and gold to add some sparkle to the day (also my favourite colour!) I designed all the wedding stationery, with hand painted eucalyptus leaves, and a personalised gold wax stamp as a unique detail for our invites.
The Flowers
Our wedding florist Ledgers Floral was absolutely incredible and blew us away with her professionalism on the day. We worked together to build a whimsical natural environment and filled the barn with tall hydrangea and wispy willow centrepieces which we then decorated with hanging candles – the effect in the evening was so magical. We also created beautiful gypsophila pompoms which hung from the ceiling – so gorgeous! We used several tonnes of eucalyptus throughout the venue which brought out the natural scenery and also made the barn smell incredible. The huge floral window arch framing the outside door to the barn was a beautiful backdrop for our family photos, and the personalised gold calligraphy eucalyptus wreaths hanging in the reception made the most of the beautiful height of the barn. We hired some olive trees from
The Norfolk Olive Tree Company, and decorated them with fairy lights throughout the venue to further enhance the whimsical aspect of the décor. Our mum Christine also made some amazing gold and ivory sequin bunting which looked fantastic in the outside marquee where we had reception drinks, alongside our hay bale sofas and ‘bling your bubbles’ stand.
The Wedding Party
We had a huge wedding party, with 4 bridesmaids, 3 bridesmen, 6 ushers, 1 page boy – so a lot of wedding styling to do for the day! The girls looked beautiful in pale green sequin and tulle dresses from
ASOS, complete with hydrangea posies, and we hired the bridesmen and usher suits from
Moss Bros which was super convenient and easy for such a large group.
The Entertainment
We hired local string quartet – the
Sole Bay Strings during the daytime where they played some classical music in the church ceremony, followed by some more modern pop music as we exited the church (the Beatles ‘All You Need Is Love’) and throughout the outside drinks reception. In the evening we had a knock out band from Brighton called the
HotRox, the lead singer Alex absolutely rocked the venue and the dancefloor was packed from start to finish! We also hired a unique photobooth for the evening, called
The Travelling Booth – with retro set up and props to entertain the guests.
The Food
Our caterer and team were absolutely outstanding on the day – we chose
Andy Parle after being blown away by his professional approach and incredible food when we visited his house for a tasting in Norfolk. Food was an extremely important part of the day, and we were absolutely thrilled with all the compliments we received from all of our guests – the best wedding food they had ever had! We chose a sharing plates style menu of middle eastern inspired food, served on big round tables which was a great way to make the meal as social as could be!
The Photography
Our super talented photographer was
Sarah-Jane Ethan who captured such perfect photos on the day. We chose her because of her beautifully light and natural style, and her ability to make us feel completely at ease throughout the whole experience. The images are just magical, and capture all the special moments and details of the day – perfection!
The Videography
We chose a company called
Green Biscuit after researching online and falling in love with their work on their website
Special Moment
One special highlight of the night was when a surprise video was aired in the evening reception, featuring the brides’ wedding party re-enacting a Celine Dion music video (personal song favourite of the bride) – with cameo appearances with her parents, Darwin the puppy, and her nephew Oscar. It was jaw droppingly hilarious!
