So you've curated your perfect wedding gift list. You've got several price brackets covered. Upgrades on some of your everyday items. Some statement pieces for your home, a selection of your favourite wines and a couple of incredible experiences to help ward off those post-wedding blues. But how on earth do you politely ask for wedding gifts!? Asking for presents is innately difficult to do. How do you find the right wedding gift list wording for your invites? Never fear, we've asked The Wedding Shop to chime in. As the UK's longest established gift list company they know a thing or two about asking for gifts graciously, and they've been helping couples to curate and manage their gift lists for almost 30 years! From how to when, they've got all your questions covered.

When Do I Ask My Guests For Wedding Gifts?

The most sensible time to let people know about your wedding gift list is when you send out your invitations. Whether you're sending out paper invites or creating a wedding website, directing people to your list is essential. Otherwise, you'll end up with a constant stream of people asking 'Do you have a gift list?' Or you could end with rogue items you neither want or need.

"Your presence at the wedding is more important to us than presents! However, if you would like to buy us a gift we have a gift list with The Wedding Shop. You may order online, by telephone or in person at one of the showrooms."

"We hope you can join us in celebrating our marriage! Please know that your presence is the best gift you could provide, but should you feel inclined, we have a gift list with The Wedding Shop."

How Do I Ask For Wedding Gifts Graciously?

Naturally having your guests attend your wedding is the most important thing to you. If you're asking them to travel across the country and pay for accommodation, it can feel a little cheeky to ask for a wedding gift too. But I promise you, the people who are coming to your wedding not only really want to come, but they also really want to bring a gift. Ask in a way that is appreciative of the guests attending but that directs them in a clear manner to your list. You'll find lots of ways to word this above and below, just chose the one that feels right in tone and style to you and your partner.

"While it's enough of a present that you're coming to our big day, if you'd still like to give us a gift, we have a gift list at The Wedding Shop. Our gift list reference is our wedding date."

"All we really want for our wedding day is for you to be there to celebrate with us, but if you'd like to give us a gift, we have a gift list at The Wedding Shop. Our gift list reference is our surname."
