You’re new to this whole wedding thing so we’re here to hold your hand and get you through. Here's our guide to what to do straight away and trust us, everything else can wait...
So you’ve just got engaged. You’re getting married! But where on earth do you begin? Planning a wedding is really exciting, but can be a little stressful. At Rock My Wedding we cover the highs and lows of wedding planning and we’d love to help you plan your big day. On our site you’ll find stylish, unique and inspirational weddings, practical planning advice and words of wisdom from real brides. You can buy our first book, Your Day Your Way on Amazon. Plus you can browse our Recommended venues & suppliers to find the very best in the business.
Getting engaged is most definitely a special occasion, so make sure you celebrate with a glass of something cold and bubbly! Throw an engagement get-together for friends and family to announce your special news. It doesn’t have to be extravagant, something as simple as drinks at your favourite pub or a dinner party at home is fine - but people will want to celebrate with you! Everyone loves a good wedding, and it's lovely to get caught up in the excitement of it all.
Get the difficult decisions out of the way first. If you can both agree on a rough budget (with a contingency for blowouts just in case you find a pair of designer shoes that you just HAVE to have) then things will be much easier as you progress through planning. Although it feels early, this is a great time to narrow down your guest list. You’ll need to know rough numbers when you’re choosing your venue. And a great place to start with finding your venue is on our Recommended venues list. Here you'll find incredible venues all over the UK and Europe, all of which have been vetted by team RMW, with many of them having been featured in real weddings right here on our site.
As soon as you start to plan your big day, you’ll hear people saying that the best suppliers get booked up years in advance. While this is often true, if you prioritise what’s important to you - then your date can be flexible. If you’ve fallen for a particular venue or photographer - then find out what dates they have available before making any decisions. It can be cheaper to have a weekday wedding, but remember that this will involve people having to take time off work. If you’re not having any luck on finding a venue that works for your requirements then don’t be afraid to rethink things - have you considered a tipi wedding or a getting married abroad? Remember our Recommended suppliers list is brimming with suppliers who are not only creative and super talented, but also really helpful and efficient. All they want to do is help your dream wedding become a reality. So if they are booked for your big day, they'll be able to suggest someone else who can help.
Once you’ve got your date in the diary, it’s time to chose the guys and girls who are going to help make it happen! Planning a wedding is a big undertaking and if you’re not employing a wedding planner then you’ll definitely need your besties to get involved. It’s also an excuse to have another celebration and to spend all your time browsing ASOS for dresses, as well as getting your appointments at bridal boutiques booked.
