Where do we start with Emma & Sarah’s gorgeous day at Recommended Venue, Stone Barn? The two brides wanted to head into their day with a sense of preparedness. The couple have both been on difficult journeys that got them to this point and they wanted their wedding day to be a celebration of all they have overcome to finally reach their happily ever after or, more accurately, the start of their lives together! Emma & Sarah married at Stone Barn, in the Cotswolds. To complement the stunning rustic venue, the styling focused on a neutral colour palette with a variety of textures and floral details to create a warm and romantic vibe to their day. The day was captured by the amazing Recommended Supplier, Blonde Shot, You need to see this one!
We’ve both had quite a journey to get to this point in life, with lots of heartbreak, personal loss and growth on the way. Being comfortable in our skin as two gay women has taken courage. The joy we and our guests brought to our day was palpable, everyone was just so happy for us because love is love.
Emma & Sarah
Emma & Sarah wanted a relaxed vibe to the day. They wanted everything to feel very casual, fun and joyful with nothing too traditional, too long or too formal throughout the day. Emma & Sarah fell in love with Stone Barn as soon as they viewed it and who can blame them? The venue is so beautiful in its simple and undressed state. The brides wanted to ensure they kept the rustic neutral tones of the barn throughout the styling and worked with Roxie (the incredible florist) to create their dreamy wedding vision. They included soft and subtle colours amongst textures, ribbons and candles on the tables to give a warm and romantic feel, which accompanied the barn and fairy lights so well.
Both brides wanted to walk down the aisle and decided on separate aisle walks. Emma entered first to ‘I Get To Love You’ by Ruelle played by Alex, the live acoustic singer. The barn doors closed behind her whilst the singer continued to sing their song. The doors reopened a few minutes later and Sarah entered. That moment of seeing each other, in their gorgeous dresses, with an emotional and sentimental song playing, and feeling so loved and happy in that very moment, was definitely both of their favourite moments of the whole day. Walking down the aisle is an important moment of any wedding day because of the symbolic meaning of taking your very first steps into your new chapter of life.
Our advice would be to relax but do sweat the small stuff if it matters to you. Try to pause to enjoy the build-up. The details matter, and, even though they seem minor when things start to get stressful, persist and stay organised as you’ll look back and be glad you did those extra little bits that felt important. We paused in the few weeks before the wedding and reflected on everything and how grateful we felt going into the big day. This helped us keep perspective. Also, we had a wine and cheese night and collated our Spotify playlist for the evening, that was also a nice moment of downtime amongst the build-up.
Emma & Sarah
For Emma & Sarah, enhancing their wedding venue rather than trying to dress it up or change the feeling of it was important. To achieve this, they focused on adding warmth through the styling and one way they did this was with lighting. The couple had neon lights, candles, fairy lights and more to create that romantic atmosphere. You can go to our wedding lighting ideas for some more inspiration from our real weddings! We also have to give a quick mention to Emma’s mum’s flower-patterned mother-of-the-bride dress. What a look! Check out some more mother-of-the-bride outfits we’ve put together.
