I loved putting together Emma and Jacob's engagement shoot feature - I feel like
Fern Edward's images have really captured their individual personalities and the dynamic of their relationship too. It's such a fun way to get to know your photographer, feel comfortable in front of the camera and have some gorgeous images of the two of you to treasure. Every couple needs to do one!!!
I'm seriously looking forward to seeing their wedding photos too, judging from these images and reading Emma's words, it's going to be a stylish but relaxed affair - the venues they've chosen are two of our favourites and with Fern behind the lens you just know the photographs are going to be stunning too...
Our Story
Emma the Bride-to-be:Jacob and I met in our first year of university whilst I was hanging out of a first floor window talking to a mutual friend and he was drunkenly insisting I join them for a cheese toastie. (Feel free to draw Romeo and Juliet comparisons). Whilst this didn't win me over straight away, we became fast friends and even housemates. Four years after we first met, we became a couple and moved from Portsmouth to London.
The Proposal
For our five year anniversary we went to Paris for the weekend, the trip was very relaxed and I rolled my eyes at my friend's messages asking if Jacob "had proposed yet". We came home to a police cordon at both ends of our street, due to a fire and gas leak underneath a near by shop. Jacob was very jittery and keen to get into the house despite the police insisting it wasn't safe. We gave up and went away to meet a friend for a dinner.
Much later, after a long stressful day, we finally got the okay to head home. I opened the door to find photos and messages hanging from the ceiling and walls documenting our whole relationship. Behind the final photo, a ring box was hanging from the ceiling. (I realise why he was so keen to get back into the house now!) Jake designed the ring himself based on jewellery I had pointed out in the past and I'm always getting compliments on how unique it is.
The Engagement Photos
We found Fern through Rock My Wedding and fell in love with her style straight away. Everyone in her photos looks so relaxed and natural. We chose the Barbican for our engagement photos as I love the contrast of the brutalist architecture and soft landscaping. I was very nervous at first, but Fern really did put us at ease and chatting we found we had loads in common and by the end it felt like taking pictures with a mate. We're so happy with how they've turned out!
The Wedding
We chose our ceremony venue at The Horniman pretty quickly, as we were fixated on glasshouses and conservatories. Then chose the Town Hall for our reception ceremony as it's a beautiful Art Deco building and the staff were really open to us making the event our own. We hope the day is going to be full of laughter and music which will lend itself to Fern's laid back style of photography and be memorable for everyone!
