Charlotte & Mike had a soft and charming boho wedding at Tenuta Savoca in Sicily. Sicily holds a very special place in the couple’s hearts as Mike is half Sicilian and they visit nearly every year. In 2021, Charlotte & Mike got engaged at Scala Dei Turki at sunset, and when they first got together in 2007, the couple always said they’d tie the knot in Sicily one day, in the hope that they could share the beautiful culture between both their English and Sicilian families. The couple are lucky enough to say they did exactly that thanks to Recommended Supplier, Amuri Events & Wedding Planner. The wedding day was filled with personal details from using Nonna’s family recipe as wedding favours, Charlotte’s bespoke wedding stationery, and Mike’s surprising Charlotte with a string quartet. Charlotte wore a lace wedding dress from Recommended Supplier, Made With Love, for the boho wedding. The couple also chose Recommended Supplier, Prezola, for their gift list.
Planning a wedding takes a lot of time, consideration and energy – even more so when planning a destination wedding. Having a planner was the absolute best decision we made. Not only did she help us to find a venue that we hadn’t even shortlisted, but she also found all of the suppliers and translated contracts, leaving us to be able to focus on the detail and design of the day (which we chose to be more involved with).
We were advised that getting legally married in Sicily on the day would be quite complicated and that it was perhaps better to do the legal bit in the UK before heading out. But, we were set on our decision and although we’re happy that we got to legally tie the knot in Sicily, it added a lot of stress, money and complexity – in hindsight, we perhaps should have taken our planner's advice on this one!
Charlotte & Mike
It was important to Charlotte & Mike that their wedding reflected Sicily in an authentic way, so when the planner introduced them to Tenuta Savoca, it blew the couple away with its charm, history and character. The venue has been passed down for generations and is nestled in the heart of the Sicilian countryside. The ceremony was set within a forest of tall eucalyptus trees. How enchanting! The reception was held outside with a view of the landscape and roaming peacocks. Charlotte & Mike’s day was centred around their love for Sicilian food, with locally grown ingredients and live cooking demonstrations. Music was another key factor as it was something the couple bonded over as teenagers. Aww! The whole day was full of live music, playing everything from Oasis to Ludovico Einaudi. For the ceremony, Michael surprised Charlotte with a string quartet, which was something she had always dreamed of. For the evening they had a musician play the ukulele and the piano to get the guests ready for the party vibes.
The style for Charlotte & Mike’s day was soft boho and rustic, highlighted by dried and fresh flowers to fit seamlessly into the historic venue and surroundings. As a Brand and Packaging Designer, Charlotte has a creative flair and she made bespoke cream, terracotta and olive green stationery. From soft hanging banners to terracotta pot name plates, and dried flower table numbers, each element was carefully curated to complement the idyllic and natural setting of Tenuta Savoca. Charlotte & Mike had three table settings to fit around the long central water feature. Close family sat on round tables in front of the sweetheart table with peacock chairs. The favours were bottles of a Sicilian spice mix, olive oil from Tenuta Savoca’s trees and Nonna’s aglio e olio pasta recipe – the couple’s favourite dish. Everything came together so beautifully, with the aesthetic working in harmony with the venue setting. Every detail was considered, and it’s breathtaking to see Charlotte & Mike’s vision come to life.
You'll see in the wedding video that there was a hilarious moment where the best men found that the rings were missing from the box, and our celebrant, Dario, styled this out so well, with our videographer capturing the moment brilliantly! Something that could have been a disaster turned into a pretty hilariously beautiful moment with our parents all standing to take off their own rings for us to use. Plus, we got to exchange rings twice!
Charlotte & Mike
Our favourite detail from Charlotte & Mike’s wedding at Tenuta Savoca is how they used their Nonna’s family recipe of their favourite pasta dish as their wedding favours. It’s unique, personal and thoughtful to share something that means so much to the couple with their guests. We’re so impressed with Charlotte’s talent in creating all her own wedding stationery and signage.
