Carla & Elliot’s Thwaite Mills & Northern Monk Brewery wedding embraced all the best things about autumn and Yorkshire! Both of these wedding venues were former mills and were Carla & Elliot’s ode to their love of God’s own country. The couple are obsessed with the autumn season and all those rich, warm colours and tones. The natural boho vibe of autumn was exactly what Carla & Elliot wanted to incorporate into their special day. The couple set the date in October and used that as their inspiration. Lots of burnt oranges and brown tones were used throughout, including on those gorgeous bridesmaid dresses from Recommended Supplier, Rewritten Bridesmaids. These added to the vintage retro vibe (along with the cardboard cutout of David Bowie). Carla’s outfit was a boho dream complete with a flower crown! Plus, all of this was captured by Recommended Supplier, Shutter Go Click, Okay, that’s enough from us! Let’s get into this wedding day…
Our favourite moment was the brass band. We didn't tell any guests that we booked a band. They hid up the fire escape until after the first dance and then surprised everyone. Everyone was up dancing with lots of happy faces! Our little nephew danced so hard that he wore out the tips and soles of his shoes to the point where they are now unwearable!

Autumnal October Wedding At Thwaite Mills & Northern Monk Brewery
Thwaite Mills & Northern Monk Brewery are both unique and industrial Yorkshire-based wedding venues. Northern Monk Brewery is actually the place where Carla & Elliot’s favourite beer is brewed! The couple used the industrial stripped-back style of the venues as a blank canvas to create their dream autumn theme wedding with lots of burnt oranges and dried flowers. Carla & Elliot also had a bit of a David Bowie theme going on too. As true fans, at their wedding reception, there was a life-sized cardboard cutout of the legend!
Carla & Elliot also got stuck in with some DIY projects to help them stick to their budget. The couple loved how the personal details made their wedding that much more individual and memorable. They made their own A-frame wooden arch for the altar rather than hiring/buying one. The couple also made their welcome sign from a pallet they found outside their favourite bar (so fitting for their brewery wedding!). The Polaroid seating plan was also such a fun DIY task, Carla & Elliot loved picking out silly pictures of their guests!
Do all your venue decorating the day before if your venue is okay with that. Even if you have to pay extra to hire the room. We had 2 venues and had originally planned to do it on the morning of the wedding. Looking back, I'm so glad we didn't! Try and enjoy the planning process and not stress too much. Everything will be perfect on the day and even if something does go wrong, you'll be so happy you won't even notice or care!
Carla & Elliot
For their Thwaite Mills & Northern Monk Brewery wedding, the couple made various playlists for different parts of the day, which included lots of David Bowie. The couple’s first dance was an acoustic cover of David Bowie's "Let's Dance" by M Ward and their last dance was "The Heart is a Muscle" by Gang of Youths. Looking for your perfect first dance or last dance song? We’ve got the playlists for you! Carla’s sister also did a reading which was a poem that Elliot wrote for Carla in one of the Valentine's cards he gave her one year. So sweet!
