Over the last few weeks we've been sharing some beauty related posts to help make you feel your most beautiful self on the big day (if you've missed any you'll find links at the bottom of this post). Today we're sharing make up advice and top products for Brides with more mature skin, because no matter what your age, on your wedding day you still want to feel and look gorgeous. I've turned to the experts - Kristina Gasperas and Katy Djokic, both of whom you'll find on our recommended supplier directory, The List. And it's not about piling on the products for coverage, as Kristina says 'different age groups require different approaches to makeup. With a few tricks and the correct products it's possible to look radiant, youthful and an elegant version of yourself without appearing like you're wearing a lot of makeup.' Right, let's get started shall we? And no matter what your age, there's a product or two in here I think we all need to order ;)
Kristina: One of the most youth-boosting makeup tips is to apply luminous blusher to enhance cheek colour and create fuller, more lifted cheekbones. Blushers that have gentle highlighters should be used such as Hourglass Luminous Flush or Laura Mercier Joie de Vivre Windflush Colour Powder for Cheeks & Eyes. Your complexion will look instantly healthier and younger. Kristina: Heavy foundation use rarely creates a youthful, effortlessly beautiful complexion so use tinted moisturisers or radiance boosting foundations such as YSL Touche Éclat Le Teint or Chantacaille Future Skin Foundation to achieve natural-looking, smooth skin coverage. Once a light coat of foundation has been applied use a creamy concealer like MAC Pro Longwear which can be blended in easily to conceal any skin imperfections where required. Kristina: Brightening the under-eye area has a superb anti-ageing effect and makes your eye makeup appear lighter and fresher. Use a light concealer and brightener such as Charlotte Tilbury The Retoucher. This can double-up as skin as well as under-eye concealer. Kristina: For brows use tinted brow gel to brush them into shape keeping unruly eyebrow hairs in place and covering any greys. A great product is Benefit Gimme Brow volumising fibre eyebrow gel or L'Oréal Paris Brow Artist Plumper. Kristina: Always opt for lipsticks that have a moist finish - glossy looking lips have an amplifying effect as well as a more youthful one, whilst a pearlised finish can have a slightly ageing effect. MAC has a great range of lipsticks with glossy finishes and some of my favourite natural rosy colours are in Touch, See Sheer and Patisserie. MAC's Out for Passion is a slightly brighter pink that looks amazing and flattering. YSL has a great range too, such as Rouge Volupté Shine that both looks and feels fantastic.
Katy: Use a foundation or tinted moisturiser which gives you more of a glow, so avoid mattifying products. This gives the skin a more youthful appearance such as MAC Face and Body. Only use powder on the t zone. Kristina: The most flattering way to apply eyeliner is by aiming to fill the roots of your lashes but keeping the line slightly thicker on the outer corners and much thinner through the mid and inner-eye. This will give the eyelids a lifted effect. Don't be scared to use black pencil and feel free to experiment with dark navy, plum and dark green. A good waterproof pencil is Chanel Stylo Yeux Waterproof. If you apply eyeliner on the lower lashes ALWAYS balance it out with a line on the top lashes, at the very least on the outer corners. Eyeliner on just the lower lash-line can make the eyes appear droopy. Katy: Don't put too much makeup in areas with fine lines such as around the under eye area as this will just highlight lines - use products sparingly and designed specifically such as under eye concealers. Dior Skin Star concealer is excellent. Kristina: If you find it difficult to get a straight line with a pencil, use an eyeliner brush such as Bobbi Brown Ultra Fine Eyeliner Brush dipped into a dark eye-shadow or a gel liner such as Maybelline New York Lasting Drama Gel, then run the brush using short strokes in-between your lashes gently joining them up and creating a straighter line. Kristina: To curl your lashes use a good quality curler and squeeze the lashes close to the roots for about 5 to 10 seconds. Your eyes will instantly appear lifted and open. Katy: Use a cream coloured eyeliner in the waterline of your eye - this will instantly freshen and brighten up the appearance of your eyes by taking out any redness - Charlotte Tilbury does a fantastic one called Rock and Kohl, Eye Cheat Katy: Define your eyebrows - they frame your face and give structure to your face as well as giving a more youthful appearance. Benefit do a brilliant easy to use brow kit.
