Sophia & James wanted the vibe of their wedding to be a ‘gentle summer’s day’ and that’s exactly what they created! Using the beautiful The Silk Mill Studios as the canvas, the couple worked with local suppliers and got their family and loved ones involved in some DIY to create their botanical vision. Including the bride’s sister and our lovely Recommended Supplier, Ruby & Co. Filled with colourful wildflowers, a Nicole Milano flower wedding dress, a dessert table overflowing with home-baked sweet treats and lots of smiling happy faces, this wedding certainly encapsulates that summer feeling. Despite having 110 guests, the couple made their day feel intimate and romantic with a special hand-fasting ceremony and connected meditation. Here are all the details…
We wanted to have a relaxed day, it was perfect to have suppliers that we already had a connection or relationship with as it makes the day easier to coordinate, and you feel like your suppliers are an extension of your guests. We also wanted to support as many local and small businesses as possible with the day and with Frome's lovely creative community, this meant a lot of our suppliers knew each other or had worked at the venue before.
Sophia & James
Sophia & James chose their wedding theme and decor based on a gentle summer's day. Their day was full of colour and fun, whilst at the same time being romantic and soft. The Silk Mill Studios was a charming blank canvas that lent itself to Sophia & James’ creative and design backgrounds. It was important to the couple to keep everything as homemade as possible for that personal touch. Luckily, many members of the couples’ families are creative and they all got stuck in with DIY for 4 days before the wedding to help create the vision. Sophia's sister is the owner, stylist and florist of Ruby & Co and her mum is a textile artist who created beautiful wall hangings.
For the ceremony, Sophia & James had Quaker-style circular seating to make it feel like all their closest friends and family were holding them whilst they said their vows. The couple chose to have a handfasting ceremony that took place in the evening and was led by two close friends who guided guests through songs and a connected meditation to wish good fortune and love upon the couple. For the wedding breakfast, a big feast-style meal was served followed by a delicious wedding dessert table filled with sweet treats that were baked and brought along by their guests. Yum! The day after the wedding, they had a picnic and a wild swim with all their guests.
We were so lucky to have Sophia's sister's amazing styling, floristry and design skills for our day. She is the owner of Ruby & Co and provided so much for our styling including our beautiful gold cutlery and vintage brass vases, statement backdrop in our colour choices, rattan furniture and kilim rugs for outside as well as creating all our beautiful bouquets, buttonholes and corsages.
