St Luke’s Church, known as the ‘Bombed Out Church’, suffered catastrophic damage during the Blitz of 1941, leaving only its external masonry standing.Louise Griffin Photography
Overgrown and inaccessible, the bombed out church site lay derelict for over 60 years, before being cleared, and transformed by a series of cultural events, reopening the space to the public. Having become an established venue for theatre, dance, classical and world music, visual art, cinema, as well as alternate and participatory forms of work, the site now stands as a testament to community spirit and the power of the arts to affect change.
My inspiration came from not being able to travel for destination weddings the past year. I figured if we can get to Tuscany then I would bring Tuscany to the UK. We kept the pallet really clean and simple since the venue is so spectacular and wanted to keep the focus on the old rustic walls and open-air ceiling. The stylist had ordered large olive trees for the day along with tons and tons of candles for the aisle area.
It was the first day out of lockdown for us all so it was incredible to go out and do something creative. The weather, however, was not in our favour as it had to be the windiest day ever!!! Most of the items we laid out was getting blown away! It all turned out ok for the best but it was definitely a challenge. The videographer had her Italian friend read the vows in Italian for the film which was incredible.
We wanted to keep the fashion modern and classy. Jazmin from Flamingo Boulevard styled the model in separates. Choosing a fitted skirt that gave the model a real modern look with a bit of edge.Louise Griffin Photography
As unique as this bombed out church wedding venue is, it isn't the first to grace our pages. We've also been wowed by this gothic-style inspiration, including a black lace wedding dress and red flowers.
