The Inspiration
Elle the Stylist: As Event Designer and Stylist, I look for inspiration everywhere! When I am designing for a couple lots of elements will effect the overall look and style of the day. Their loves and personality will always be the main influence, but other factors such as the location of their wedding, and the season will also have an effect on the creative process. I love Autumn, especially by the Coast, where we get lovely golden tones of light. I adore watching the countryside around me change, and the beauty that the new season brings. I find that couples choosing to get married in the Autumn often find it more difficult to come up with ideas for styling the look of their day than those planning a summer wedding.
The Styling
For this inspirational shoot we used the warm glow as of an early autumn evening as the basis for our colour pallet, using golden tones, hazelnut, latte and toffee colours along side dusky pinks. I wanted to illustrate that an Autumnal wedding pallet does not always have to be about rich berry tones and strong oranges and reds, but could take on a softer romantic yet cosy, warm feeling.
Embrace the spirit of the season when you are planning your wedding styling – think about cosy textures to dress your reception and keep your guests toasty warm. Blankets and cushions can add interest and comfort. Table styling can include beautiful earthen wear crockery, brass details and warm wood. Think about some feature coloured glass wear and beautiful cutlery to add some depth to your tablescape.
The Florals & Foliage
I am totally in love with pampas grass, and whilst walking my dog of an Autumn evening I often stop to pick lovely seed heads and berries, and these seasonally foraged items made the basis of the floral elements of the styling for this shoot. I used the last of the summers garden roses in warm peachy yellows and toffee tones, alongside seed heads and grasses, dried artichoke hearts and the lovely pampas. I really love the bouquet I made simply of pampas grass, so simple but so beautiful!
The Food & Drink
When I design an event with a couple, we think about every detail and what we can do to create a beautiful guest experience, and this often includes what food to serve. When you are thinking about planning your Autumn wedding celebration think about using seasonal goodies, to delight and surprise your guests! Hayley from
Dolly Bird Bakes brought the taste of the season to our inspirational shoot with beautiful toffee nut brittle, yummy little pecan pies, nutty chocolate florentines and the beautiful wedding cake was a sweet sticky toffee sponge, with caramel buttercream and a salted caramel sauce. And for drinks, how about serving a warm spiced buttered cider, (or an warm spiced apple juice for the non drinkers) to warm your guests after your wedding ceremony?
The Fashion
The outfits you choose for your Autumn wedding can also reflect the season, how about layering up your bridal separated with some chunky knitwear and even a scarf for the colder parts of your wedding day Grooms don’t have to stick to the traditional suit but can cosy up in some winter woollies and a beautiful dress coat!
The Beauty
Ione our fabulous hair and makeup artist created two beautiful halo plats for Kendal, one with her hair all up, and one half up half down do, both of which really suited the laid back natural look.
